HOW TO FIGHT SPAM!!!

If you're new to the fight against spam, this site is for you. I've started to compile a list of sites and resources that will help you to understand what spam is, why it's bad, and what you can do to help get spammers kicked off of the Internet, which will indirectly reduce the amount of spam you receive every day. Unfortunately, the only way to receive less spam is this way... asking nicely to be removed might very well work in a few situations, but is more likely to result in more spam! See below to find out why. In a nutshell, though, spammers believe that the best way to promote whatever they're selling is to get as many emails out to as many recipients as possible, figuring that that will allow them to reel in the largest number of suckers. Even some "legitimate" emailers practice this method of advertising, even though they're alienating the vast majority of their potential customers this way. For more info, see my other site whyspamisbad.com.

SpamCop, a good way for the beginner to send "LARTs"

These sites are good resources to help you to manually track down the various elements of spam... sending ISPs, open relays, the spammers' web site (even "munged" or "cloaked" URLs that look like nonsense), etc.

Abuse.net - A clearinghouse for proper contact addresses for various ISPs (unfortunately, not everyone uses "abuse@domain.com")

bitch-list.net - My "abuse.net from Hell"... ISPs that show themselves to be resistant to handling their spamming customers get taken to the next level... bitch-list.net entries forward spam complaints to ever address I can find for them. If you're a novice spam fighter, stick with Spamcop and/or abuse.net... LARTs sent via bitch-list.net are likely to bounce as only specifically listed domains will work. abuse.net defaults to "postmaster@domain.com", which is supposed to always work.

Mail Abuse Prevention System
RFC-Ignorant.org - Blocks mail from servers that don't comply with RFC requirements for working postmaster accounts or who do not accept DSN messages.
